The shot above is the third time I've tried to photograph the Aurora. It was only visible as faintly glowing patches that appeared and disappeared within seconds. The camera however, picked up a beautiful rainbow coloured light. I took 27 shots over about an hour. Next time I'm going to use the interval timer to save my freezing hands fumbling in the dark with glove removed!

If you know the night sky, it is easy to see the Southern Cross, upside down and the pointers to the right. The Milky Way is the busiest part of the sky, it is parallel to the horizon here, cutting across the middle third of the shot.
